Faith

1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

4But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus,

7 in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:1-7

What!! ! Not drink their milk?  Well, Katie has been at it again, this time reading about genentic modification of milk.  Yes, milk.

Back in 1993, Monsanto was granted permission by the FDA to market Bovine Growth Hormone known as BGH or BST.  This hormone is given to cause cows to produce 25% more milk.  Bovine Growth Hormone is a naturally occurring hormone.  Researchers took this gene and spliced it with E. coli bacteria in order for it to reproduce.  After the desired reproduction occurs, the bacteria is killed off  and the BGH/BST is harvested.

What are the results of this growth hormone?  For the cows, the increased milk production causes udder infections.  This leads to cows being given antibiotics.

How does this affect the milk?  Milk from cows given growth hormones has been found to have more puss in it from the udder infections.    Another substance, IGF-1 has been found to increase in milk from these cows.  There are possible links between IGF-1 and cancer.  Also, antibiotics are in the milk.

A friend of mine recently told me about a 25 year old young woman suffering from breast cancer.  This cancer was thought to be related to growth hormones.  I have noticed if I’m not careful about the dairy products I use,  they cause a migraine headache.  Other health problems associated with pasterized and or homogenized milk are degenerative arthitis, heart disease, cateract, and failure to thrive.  Want to learn more?  The Milk Book  is a good source.

Also, this website has some interesting information.

 http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/bgh.htm

The Lord talked of milk as a blessing ” A land flowing with milk and honey”.  If available, we do enjoy the blessing of “real” milk; fresh and raw.  Otherwise, we are fortunate enough to have a local dairy that does not use growth hormones or homogenize their milk.   Ask around.  You may be surprised at what is available.  And then, go ahead and drink your milk.

Blessings,

Meet Ellie Cate and Josie Claire!

Robin,scott,twin

Robin and Scott are dear friends of ours.  I am so humbled by them.   They take seriously the Lord’s words “Suffer the little children to come unto Me.”   Here is a video of their lastest family additions.

Robin and Scott have 5 biological children, 4 more in heaven, Joseph from Liberia and have welcomed home the twins this week.

We cried and prayed with them as they anticipated the adoption of Joseph.  Joseph was in great need of heart surgery.  Robin miscarried while in Liberia bringing Joseph home.  She and Scott stood in awe of God’s amazing provisions, provisions only He knew would be needed.

We cried with them  as they endured the loss of William one month before his due date several months ago.  It is hard to imagine the grieving of this beautiful family that loves children so much, but they hang on to the Lord.  “God is faithful,…though He slay me, yet will I trust Him”  their cry.

Only God could fill those empty arms as He has this week.  Praise His Holy Name!

Glorious Food!

God gave us wonderful food to eat that not only satisfies our taste  but fills  us.  The sad thing is, so many foods today have been processed or altered through genetic modification.   They no longer do for us what God gave us  food to do – feed and nourish our bodies.

Processed  foods have been stripped of their nutrients in order to have a long shelf life.  White flour, for instance, is a relatively new product.  Only in the 1900’s was this product available to the general public.  Before the technology was available to mass produce it, white flour was only available to the wealthy.

White flour has the vitamins and natural oils removed in order to keep it from going rancid on the shelf at room temperature over a long period of time.  When this began, they found that people developed serious health problems.  and linked it back to the removal  of vitamins from the white flour.  Flour was then “enriched” with only a handful of  the 30+removed nutrients, just enough to prevent bari-bari.  You can read about this at http://www.fullcupbread.com/history.asp

When that wonderful young man in the top picture  was little, he had lots of health problems.  A journey into a healthier lifestyle began.  What he Bible Says about Healthy Living changed our lives in more ways than one.  Besides introducing us to God’s science about health, it led us to have more of a biblical worldview.  This means seeing the world through what God has to say about it.  His Word really does cover every area of life.   Isn’t that great?

Riddle:  If foods needed to be genetically modified, why didn’t God modify them to begin with?

Answer:  Because His foods don’t need to be genetically modified;  they were created very good!

When your car has a problem, to you take it to the dentist?  Do you call the plumber?  What silly questions!  You would try to find the answer from the company that manufactured the car.  It knows your car because it designed it.

Our Creator knows our bodies, and He designed food that perfectly nourishes our bodies.  Science tells us the protein chain in food matches our protein chain.  How amazing and awesome is our God!  Sadly though, genetically modifying  food changes that protein chain.

My daughter, Katie, is studying about genetics.  She ran across some interesting information.  As far back as 1995 and before, experiments to genetically modify food to  vaccinate people have been going on.  Think about this.  In our country, laws have been passed to keep food companies from having to label genetically modified foods.   We may eventually be given vaccines through our food and be totally unaware this is happening.  This same Katie had a serious reaction to a vaccine as a baby.  Thankfully afterward, she no longer received that vaccine.  If it had been  in our food, there would have been no way for me to know what caused her seizure.

What to do?  Become educated as to foods that are genetically modified.  Here is a link to a brochure of genetically modified foods:

http://www.seedsofdeception.com/documentFiles/144.pdf

Buy organic.  I know this can be more expensive, but through simple changes like having more meatless meals, it can be  done without killing the budget.  (You WILL end up saving much more in doctor bills, too).

 lasagna gardening

Raise your own food using non-genetically modified seeds.  This can be done without a lot tools or even much topsoil.  Lasagna Gardening is a book that tells you how it can be done.   If you cut grass or rake leaves, you can build soil.  Again, isn’t God awesome?  He thinks of everything!  Here are two links to non- gm’d seeds:  (I won’t get into their politics :-)

I’ll have a couple more posts on health coming up.  While good  whole  foods are important to maintaining our health,  Jesus is our  ultimate healer :

Isa 53:5
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (KJV)

This following article was taken from Above Rubies e-newsletter.

“PRAYER CONCERN:

On September 25th there will be a national prayer gathering of Muslims on the west front of the U.S. Capitol Building. They are expecting at least 50,000 to attend from mosques all across  America. They’ll gather to pray from 4:00 am until 7:00 pm. The
gathering will take place by the site where U.S Presidents have been inaugurated since 1981. The organizers say that it was Obama’s inauguration speech in January and his speech broadcast from Egypt in June that gave them the idea for this prayer gathering on Capitol Hill.

One of the Sheikhs who is leading the gathering, stated, “Muslims should march on the White House. We are going to the White House so that Islam will be victorious, Allah willing, and the White House will become into a Muslim house.”

Prayer for Husbands

Dear Father,

Please enable my husband to obey Your cammand to love You with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might. (Deut. 6:5)  Let his heart be filled with You alone to make him pure and true (James 4:8)  Create in him a clean heart filled with pure thought and right desires.(Psalm 51:10).  Warn him not to harden his heart (Psalm 95:8).

Lord, thank You for giving me my husband.   You are his head (I Corth. 11:3).  Help me allow him to be my head, as Christ is head over the Church (Eph.5:23).  Thank You for being  head over all and for Your perfect plans for our home.  Lord, I pray that my husband will have the rich experience of knowing Christ with real certainty and clear understanding.  Your plan for him is Christ Himself, and in Him are contained all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col.2:2-3).  May he not be fleshly minded but spiritually minded, which is life and peace (Romans 8:6).  Capture all his thoughts to obey Christ (2Corth. 10:5).  I pray that he will receive what Christ is teaching him and let His words enrich his life and make him wise (Col. 3:16).  Fill his thoughts with You so he doesn’t spend so much time worrying about earthly things (Col.3:2).

Thank you that You open his mind to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45).  I pray that he will not be conformed to this world but be transformed by renewing his mind in Your Word, so that he may experience Your good, acceptable, and Perfect will (Romans 12:2).  Open his eyes that he may truly see from Your perspective (2Kings 6:17).  May he keep his eyes alert for spiritual danger and stand strong and true to You.  Help him to watch for the snares of Satan, our enemy(1Peter 5:8).  Make him always discern the difference between right and wrong and be inwardly clean so that no one can find fault in him(Phil.1:10).  I pray that my husband will hear Your words with his heart, not just his head (Psalm 78:1).  Cause him to hear Your voice as You instruct him (Deut. 4:36).  Open his ears and give him wisdom, causing him to know Your mind, keeping him from pride, warning him of the penalties of sin, and keeping him from Satan’s temptations (Job33:14-17).

Give him Your words so that he may boldly make Jesus known (Eph.6:19).  Let his conversation be gracious and wise, for then he will have the right answer for everyone (Col. 4:3-6).  Whatever he does or says, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus (Col. 3:17).  Sweeten his words to say only  what is good and helpful and what will bless others (Eph.4:29).  Cause him to abstain from dirty stories, unholy talk, and coarse jokes (Eph.5:4).  Let the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart be acceptable to You (Psalm19:14).  May he be transformed in his heart in the fear of the Lord every day.  Cause him to trust in You, Lord, with all his heart and lean not unto his own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

I pray that he will let the peace of God rule in his heat (Col.3:15).  I pray that Christ will be more at home in his heart, as he trusts You more fully.  By Your mighty power at work in my husband, You are able to do far more than I could ask or ever dream – beyond my highest prayers, desires, hopes, or thoughts.  I praise You and give You glory (Eph.3:20-21)

In Jesus Name, Amen.

 Happy Birthday, Katie

Katie and Aunt Karen

Katie and Aunt Karen

I remember the first time we saw you.

We received the call on Friday evening you would be coming home on Saturday morning.

Who could sleep?

The washing of your baby things purchased with hope, but left packaged in fear;  the final preparations of your room.

Saturday morning comes, and dad runs out to pick up balloons for the mailbox to announce our daughter is here!  Oh, the camera batteries are dead.  Another stop is added, and Dad arrives right behind you.

And then we meet for the first time in person.  We have already met in our dreams.  You are so beautiful!  Years of anticipation and joy flow freely down our faces.  You are placed in my arms and fall asleep, home at last.

This is the beginning of sharing you.

Yes, you have a bed, but that is in another room.  We like you with us.  Car seats are to be in the back, but neither one of us wants to give up looking at you to drive, so in the front seat you go, right between us.  We did face you backward for safety. :-)
